Saturday Scraps with Susan (June 27, 2020)

This week I showcased cards using the Ornate Garden Suite. Today, I'll show you how to make a beautiful card using scraps of the Ornate Garden designer series paper. The trick to making this card is to attach the designer series paper to a pinwheel base. A special shout out to Linda Anderson who taught me how to make the pinwheel base.

To Make This Card
  • Select a piece of cardstock cut to 5.5" x 8.5" inches and scored at 4.25" to create your card base. I used Terracotta Tile cardstock.
  • Cut a 4.0" x 5.25" piece of  cardstock to be your first layer. I used Daffodil Delight cardstock
  • Stamp sentiment from your stamp set using your choice of ink.  I used "Life is better with a friend like you" from the Peaceful Moments stamp set and stamped it in Terracotta Tile ink at the bottom of the cardstock.
  • Attach the cardstock to your base card.
  • Cut two 2.625" x 2.625” squares of cardstock and overlap the squares diagonally to create the base of your pinwheel. I used Terracotta Tile cardstock as the base of my pinwheel.
  • Cut four 1.25” squares from two different patterns of  designer series paper for a total of 8 squares. I actually used three different papers on my card - two different flower prints and one pattern as that was what I had in scraps. To make this card I used 4 pieces of the pattern paper and 2 each of the flower print paper.
  • Apply adhesive to only one corner of the 1.25” square of designer series paper. Place the corner with the adhesive on the outside corner of the pinwheel. You only want to glue the outside and keep the inside unglued so you can tuck in the final square.
  • Apply adhesive to only one corner of the 2nd pattern of 1.25” square of designer series paper. Place this corner with the adhesive on the outside corner of the next space on the pinwheel.
  • Continue alternating the patterns of designer series paper until only one square remains.
  • Tuck the final square behind the first square of designer series paper to complete the pinwheel.
  • Add an embellishment to the center of your pinwheel to cover up the gap in the overlap of designer series paper. I used a retired embellishment but you can use the Gold Glitter Enamel Dots or the Gilded Gems which are both found in the new catalog.
  • Adhere pinwheel to card front with dimensionals.

Ornate Style Bundle

There is another bundle in the Ornate Garden Suite called Ornate Style. The bundle consists of a stamp set with lots of flowers and a die set which includes numerous fancy frame borders.

The card I designed uses pieces of the Ornate Garden designer series paper, one of the fancy frames from the Ornate Layers dies, and the Old Olive ribbon from the combo pack.

To make the card
  • Select three different papers from the Ornate Garden designer series paper. I selected two flower prints and a pattern for the front of my card.
  • Cut each paper into a 1.5" x 3.0" piece.
  • Use adhesive to attach the three different papers to a 3.25" x 5.0" piece of  cardstock. I used Multi Purpose Glue to attach the papers to Whisper White cardstock.
  • Add a strip of ribbon and attach to the back of the cardstock. I used the Old Olive ribbon.
  • Attach the cardstock to a card base cut at 5.5" x 8.5" scored at 4.25". I decided on Terracotta Tile cardstock for my card base.
  • Cut out one of the frames from a scrap of cardstock using the Ornate Layers die
  • Stamp a sentiment onto the frame in your choice of ink. I stamped the "Thinking of You" sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set using Terracotta Tile ink.
  • Use dimensionals to attach the frame to the front of the card.
I made the insert cutting one of the the Ornate Layers dies on to a piece of Whisper White cardstock cut to 4.0" x 5.25".  The flowers on the insert match the four flowers on the corners of the frame I used on the front of the card. It's awesome that everything coordinates!

I hope you like this card as much as I do.  By just using the two different die sets and the beautiful papers from the Ornate Garden suite you can make a variety of amazing cards.

If you are interested in purchasing any of the products to make this card, you can order on-line by clicking on my Shop Now button at the top of this blog and using this month's host code H3PGVCNT when you check out. I really appreciate your business!

Ornate Thanks Bundle

Wow do I love this Ornate Thanks Bundle from Stampin' Up! The stamp set has a variety of Thank You sentiments that are very versatile, but I love the die set which consists of three beautiful flower dies and three other types of borders. You can use the dies to cut a border into your cardstock or designer series paper OR you can cut out the one of the flower borders and attach it to the front of your card.  I've done both techniques in this card to show off the die set.
I used one of the border dies to cut the edge of the two Ornate Garden designer series paper (green with gold images).  I really like how that makes the card stand out. I'm sure you're thinking about all the ways you could use this beautiful border on your cards.

Then I cut out the rose flower border and attached it to a piece of Bumble Bee cardstock to be the centerpiece of the card. I added a gold glitter gem in the center of each rose to tie the card all together.

My photo was not able to capture the sentiment very well. I used the "Thanks for all you do" sentiment. Then I heat embossed the sentiment in gold on a piece of Terracotta Tile cardstock. I attached the whole card to the Terracotta Tile card base.

If I've convinced you that you need the Ornate Thanks Bundle, please go to my Shop Now button at the top of my blog and use host code H3PGVCNT when you place your order. I really do appreciate your business.

Saturday Scraps with Susan (June 20, 2020)

Today's card was inspired by Amanda Burdit. She posted a card this week using different colors and sizes of cardstock and weaving the pieces together. I've been using the Whale Done stamp set and Whale of A Time designer series cardstock to make cards this week. So I looked at all the scraps of paper I had accumulated from those various cards and created this card. I'll be giving it to my husband to celebrate Father's Day!

It is very easy to make:
  • Gather the strips of cardstock and/or designer paper you want to use.
  • Arrange them on a piece of cardstock (Whisper White or other color) cut to 3.75" x 5.0". I used Whisper White.
  • Glue the bottoms of the vertical pieces to the cardstock base. Leave the rest of the vertical strips free so you can weave the horizontal pieces of paper to get the design.  On my card I glued the 3  strips of Pacific Point and 2 strips of Balmy Blue cardstock to the Whisper White base.
  • Take your first horizontal pieces of paper and weave it and out of the vertical pieces of cardstock you just glued to the base.
  • Glue the horizonal piece to the vertical pieces.
  • Repeat with as many horizontal pieces as you decide to use. I used larger scraps of paper so I only had 4 horizontal pieces but you can use narrow strips and have many. It depends upon the effect you are looking for.
  • After you have added all the horizontal pieces, glue the top ends of the vertical pieces to the base of the cardstock.
  • Attach the base to a complementary color of cardstock cut to 4.0" x 5.25". I used Balmy Blue cardstock.
  • Attach that to the card base that is cut to 5.5" x 8.5" scored at 4.25". I used Pacific Point cardstock.
  • Stamp a sentiment using a complementary ink color onto a piece of cardstock. I stamped "It's Your Day!" sentiment from the A Good Man stamp set on Whisper White cardstock using Pacific Point ink.
  • Use a punch or die to cut out the sentiment. I used the smallest circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelit Dies
  • Attach the cut out sentiment using dimensionals.
  • Add an insert cut to 4.0" x5.25" inside the card and decorate if you wish. I used Whisper White cardstock and stamped "Being A Good Dad Starts with Being A Good Man" from the A Good Man stamp set in Pacific Point ink.
  • Add something to the envelope before mailing or giving to that special someone.
I hope you use your scraps to make a card. It's really quite fun seeing how the pieces come together.

Wishing all the men in your life a very Happy Father's Day!

Scrappy Strip Technique Challenge - Whale Done

Welcome to the Scrappy Strip Challenge. In this challenge you use your scraps of cardstock and/or designer series paper to create a card.  Bruno Bertucci designed the original scrappy strip technique making a card modeled after a rug in their home. It's fun to learn where people get their inspiration for their cards.

I've been making lots of cards this week using the Whale Done stamp set and the coordinating Whale of A Time designer series paper. Kylie announced a challenge so I made a card using all the scraps from the designer series paper and I also embossed strips of Pacific Point and Balmy Blue cardstock with the new Seabed 3-D embossing folder.

I hope you vote for my card ahttp://www.inlinkz.com/new/view.php?id=824187

To Make the Card
  • Cut strips of paper from your scraps at an angel.
  • Arrange the strips on your cardstock to see how the pattern you want to produce.
  • Glue all the strips onto a 3.75" x 5.0" piece of Pacific Point cardstock.
  • Cut off any scraps that hang over the cardstock.
  • Attach the cardstock with strips onto a 4.0" x 5.25" piece of Balmy Blue cardstock.
  • Attach that to a card base of  Pacific Point cardstock cut to 5.5" v 8.5" and scored at 4.25".
  • Fussy cut images from the designer series paper. I cut out a turtle and whale.
  • Select a sentiment and stamp onto scrap of  cardstock. I used the Thanks A Ton from the Whale Done stamp set and  stamped the sentiment onto Balmy Blue cardstock scrap using Pacific Point ink.
  • Cut out the sentiment with a punch or die. I used the Tailored Tag punch.
  • Use dimensionals to attach the images and the sentiment.

If you're interested in replicating my card, please purchase the Whale Done stamp set, Whale of A Time designer series paper, the Seabed embossing folder, and cardstock (Pacific Point and Balmy Blue) from my store by selecting Shop Now on the menu bar at the top of my blog.

Saturday Scraps with Susan (June 13, 2020)

What do you do with all those card making scraps? Throw them away?😢 Accumulate in a box or drawer?😕

Here's one possible solution to the problem. Visit my blog each Saturday where I'll post a different card design using the scraps I have accumulated throughout the week. These will be simple cards that only use paper scraps, cardstock, a stamp set, ink for stamping, and either a ribbon or embellishment to complete the card. (#SimpleStamping).

Here's this week's Saturday Scraps Card

To make this card:
  • Arrange the half inch strips of  your scraps in a diagonal pattern on some Whisper White cardstock cut to 3.75" x 5.0". Leave a space between each paper scrap. I used my Flowers For Every Season designer series paper scraps.
  • Attach the strips with glue and used scissors to cut off the strips that went beyond the cardstock.
  • Choose a sentiment from a stamp set and decide what color of ink to use. I used  "Thank You" from the Peaceful Moments stamp set and stamped in Just Jade ink.
  • Use adhesive to attach the Whisper White cardstock to a complementary piece of cardstock. I used Just Jade cardstock cut to 4.0" x 5.25".
  • Select a coordinating ribbon, make a bow. and attach using mini glue dots. I used Bumble Bee ribbon.
  • Attach the complementary piece of cardstock to the card base cut to 4.25" x 11.0" scored at 5.50". I used Bumble Bee cardstock.

International Blog Hop June 2020

I'm so glad to participate in Kylie's International Blog Hop - June 2020. If this is your first time visiting my blog, I'm Susan Schultz and I've been a demonstrator with Stampin' Up!® for a little more than 5 years.

For this month's blog we designed cards using the theme of Thank You. Those two simple words mean so much and we don't use them enough. Try to find a way to share you thanks with a different person every day.

I decided to make a Thank You card to recognize all the wonderful Father's in the World!  Since my husband loves the ocean I selected the By the Dock stamp set and Dockside dies to create a special card for him.

I designed a double easel card using two of the new In Colors (Misty Moonlight and Bumble Bee) for the card bases. In addition to the By The Dock stamp set and dies. I decided to highlight the new Whale of A Time designer series paper on my card creation.

Here is what it looks like all folded up.

I really like the 3D effect of the double easel card.

The best part is when you open the card up

completely and get to see the hidden segment.

If you like my card, please vote by finding my picture on the blog hop (picture # 30) and click on the heart on the upper right corner.

The top ten people with the most number of votes get to participate in a special blog hop at the end of the month. I hope I can count on your vote. 😃

If you would like a tutorial with all the measurements for this card, please subscribe to my Newsletter.  Thank you!

I'm excited to see everyone's Thank You cards.
